university
The program of Master of Arts in Inter-Asia NGO Studies (MAINS) is the most fully internationalized degree program of the university. Started in 2007, its multidisciplinary curriculum offers academic and practitioners’ training with timely updates on dynamic changes occurring in Asia and throughout the globe. It provides a wide range of courses in English covering current issues in the field of studies on social change, NGOs, and civil society from both regional and global perspectives.
The MAINS is intended for the people who have been contributing or have the potential to contribute to leading social progress in Asia. With academic and practical resources of the university together with supports from outside corporate donors and partners, it offers intensive yet extensive education for those who seek leadership and skills to achieve just and equitable social development in Asia. For this purpose, the program provides the students from countries in Asia with the good scholarship opportunity and living stipend. Other merits of the MAINS include participation in various events closely organized by the program and its partner organizations, one of which includes the May 18 Memorial Foundation in Gwangju, the official institution commemorating the democratic struggle in 1980. Such co-learning opportunities will provide students with an excellent chance to explore the spirit and history of pro-democracy and civil society movement of Korea. We welcome applicants with an undergraduate degree in including but not limited to social science fields, and with experiences generally in the non-profit or non-governmental sectors in Asia. We are looking for individuals with involvement in and aspirations for the promotion of social change, human rights, democratization, local community development, solidarity across borders, and humanitarian aid in Asia and the global world.
