Social Welfare Major
We aim to provide for social workers an opportunity to meet their need of being retrained and updated both in theory and practice dimensions. We also provide courses for obtaining the license of social worker. In particular, courses are offered dealing with the latest social welfare issues and theories such as philosophical arguments and multi-cultural debates, in order for students to deepen and broaden the understanding of social welfare. Another focus is put on furthering students’ ability to plan, execute, analyze and report their own field research with a series of courses of research methodology, quantitative and qualitative analysis methodology, and theses writing seminar. Based on these diverse courses we offer, students are able to design their study plans.

Clinical Social Work and Counseling Major
The major has an educational goal to train a professional who can provide counseling services in the social welfare field of Korea and related areas. Currently, in our society, the demand for professional services in social welfare and counseling is increasing due to the increase in personal mental health and adjustment problems, family conflict, domestic violence, alcohol, and divorce, but our society are suffering from shortage of professional social workers who can provide quality services. This program, based on professional theory and practical skills, train practitioners in the counseling area, and offers basic and in-depth education related to individual counseling, group counseling, and family therapy, as well as technical training opportunities through practice and supervision.

Introduction of
Social Services Major
The major deals with how a nation and social welfare organizations provide social welfare services for disabled people, senior citizens, and children in what way and how in the best conformity with what they need. To this end, based upon understanding commonalities and differentiations of various social service fields, students aim at improving their professional capabilities to plan, execute, and evaluate the services in the public and private social service sectors. The program consists of 3 major categories. First, along with a general understanding of social services, our program provides examples of recent service programs at home and abroad to enhance social service analysis and planning capabilities. Second, the program deals with the ideological principles and specific service methods of services for people with developmental disabilities who have the highest need for personal social services and are excluded from appropriate social support. Third, the major provides the principles and methods of implementing services for the elderly, empathizing with the hearts of the elderly, who constitute the most important layer of welfare service needs along with the aging of the population.

Introduction of
Social Enterprise Major
Social Enterprise Major at Graduate School of Civil Society & Welfare in Songkonghoe University started for the first time in Korea as a graduate school major in 2007. It began with the name of ‘Self-Support and Social Enterprise’, but has changed its major title to ‘Social Enterprise’ in 2014 in the sense of deeping the major program as the knowledge concerning social enterprises has accumulated. It includes a recently highlighted Co-op. program as well. Social welfare has been developed from the era being led by private sectors, via by a nation, to the era when the roles of a nation and private sectors are shared and fused. Social Welfare has been changed from an era in which the achievement of individual welfare through economic growth is important, to a welfare era through distribution, and now we are entering an era of convergence of economy and welfare, and balance between economy and welfare. Social Enterprise is a core area where economy and welfare are converged. Going beyond unilateral distribution, it realizes welfare by acquiring through bilateral exchanges. The curriculum consists of the philosophy and theory of social enterprises and the knowledge needed to run social enterprises. In addition to regular courses, it offers an opportunity to participate in training courses that explore real cases related to social enterprises.
